About Roots N' Wings Montessori School

Roots N' Wings Montessori by Kubo Montessori LLC is an authentic Montessori preschool and child care center tucked away in Redwood City and surrounded by nature. Building on Kubo Montessori's deep 20+ year history of educational excellence in the Bay Area, we serve children from 2 to 6 years old, including specialized infant, toddler, and transitional kindergarten (TK) options. We do not require children to be potty trained before enrolling and provide active, supportive potty training assistance. We are proud of our exceptionally low student-to-teacher ratio of 6:1, allowing our credentialed Montessori guides to nurture each child's independence, concentration, and love of learning using classic materials.

  • Schedule a learning tour. Directions to RnW here.
  • After completing the tour, we will email you the link to the Admissions process through Brightwheel. This includes specifying the desired start date of your child, payments, licensing forms and other required information. All of the steps will be facilitated through the Brightwheel app.
  • Once you complete the enrollment process you will receive a welcome email from the school administrator.

Does Kubo Montessori require children to be potty trained before enrolling?
No, potty training is not required for enrollment at either campus. Our credentialed Montessori guides provide gentle, nurturing potty-training support tailored to each child's individual readiness and developmental phase.
What are the student-to-teacher ratios at Kubo Montessori?
Our San Mateo campus operates at a low 12:2 ratio (6:1 effective ratio) in a home-based Casa dei Bambini setting, while our Redwood City campus operates at a 6:1 ratio in a licensed center environment.
How does a mixed-age classroom benefit my child?
Mixed-age classrooms (20 months to 6 years) allow younger children to learn from older peers while older children deepen their understanding and leadership by guiding younger classmates. This builds strong empathy, social collaboration, and self-confidence.
What daily meal options are provided?
Our San Mateo campus serves hot, organic lunches and healthy daily snacks cooked fresh in-house every morning. Our Redwood City campus provides nutritious organic morning and afternoon snacks.
What is the enrollment process and waitlist timeline?
The first step is scheduling a private campus tour via our online Calendly link. After visiting, parents submit an application. Spaces are offered on a rolling basis, and we recommend reaching out early to secure preferred start dates.

Leadership & Teachers

Ms. Mary Gonzalez

Owner

Ms. Mary has dedicated over 26 years to Montessori education, beginning in the 1990s working with children with special needs and pursuing postgraduate studies in Special Education. Inspired by her mother, who was also a teacher, Ms. Mary sees teaching as a gift and a calling. She is AMS credentialed in Early Childhood Education and AMI certified in Montessori for Dementia and Aging. With patience, understanding, and love, she believes Montessori can help shape future mathematicians, scientists, artists, builders, creators, engineers, and leaders. Most importantly, she believes in nurturing emotional intelligence, knowing that when children feel loved, confident, and inspired to learn, their intellectual potential naturally follows.

Onsite Director

Mr. Roi Brigino has been a preschool teacher since 2012. He completed 18 units of Early Childhood Education from Canada College. Mr. Roi attended AMI training courses for Early Childhood Education. He has 8 years of teaching experience in a Montessori classroom and constantly attending seminars to update his Montessori teaching skills.

Ms. Griselda Salazar

Administrator & Montessori Teacher

Ms. Griselda Salazar was born and raised in the Bay Area. She is Mexican American and can speak both English and Spanish. She started her teaching journey in community college studying Early Childhood Education. During her time in college, she learned about the Montessori Method and was instantly a huge fan. She became extremely passionate about the teaching approach. She worked as a teacher at Outschool for a few years where she did more traditional teaching but over time realized that her interest in learning and practicing the Montessori Method is something she wants to pursue. Working and teaching at Roots N Wings Montessori was a wonderful opportunity to start her teaching career. She is currently taking her Montesori certificate at MTEC/San Francisco Bay Area and taking each day as a one big step of becoming a true Montessori guide.

Montessori Teacher

Aileen is a passionate educator at Roots N Wings Montessori School, holding an Early Childhood Montessori teacher credential from the American Montessori Society. She has a Bachelor of Science in Economics with a Minor in Math and Statistics, which enhances her ability to create a structured and engaging learning environment. Her love for teaching began early—she started tutoring children during high school and continues to be inspired by working with young learners. Writing is another passion, allowing her to creatively express ideas and explore educational concepts. Aileen is committed to understanding each child’s individual needs and fostering a nurturing environment where they can thrive academically and emotionally.

Montessori Teacher

Miss Angela holds a Bachelor’s Degree in English and Bilingualism from Colombia and is currently continuing her professional training in Early Childhood Education with a focus on Montessori education at the Montessori Teacher Education Center (MTEC). Miss Angela has always enjoyed working with children and watching them discover the world around them. What she loves most about teaching is supporting each child’s individual development, celebrating their progress, and creating a safe and encouraging environment where they feel confident to learn and explore. Outside of the classroom, Miss Angela enjoys expressing her creativity through arts and crafts, listening to music, spending time in nature, and exploring different languages and cultures. She loves discovering new ways to be creative and learning about the world around her, and she enjoys bringing that same sense of curiosity and creativity into her work with children.

Ms. Joy is a compassionate Montessori educator who brings a strong academic foundation, professional expertise, and genuine warmth to her work with children. She holds American Montessori Society (AMS) credentials in both Infant & Toddler and Early Childhood Education, as well as a Bachelor of Secondary Education, major in Physical Science. Her diverse educational background gives her a well-rounded understanding of child development, learning, and effective teaching practices. Ms. Joy approaches each child with patience, respect, and understanding, recognizing that every child learns and develops at their own pace. Through thoughtful guidance, purposeful Montessori activities, and a nurturing classroom presence, she strives to foster independence, confidence, curiosity, and a lifelong love of learning. Her combination of academic preparation, Montessori expertise, and heartfelt dedication makes her a valued and trusted member of the Montessori community.

Miss Madel is a dedicated guide at Roots N Wings Montessori School, holding an Early Childhood Montessori credential as well as an Infant & Toddler credential from the American Montessori Society. She earned a Bachelor's degree in Political Science, which enriches her ability to prepare a thoughtful, structured environment where children are free to explore, discover, and grow at their own pace. Rooted in the Montessori philosophy of following the child, Madelaine believes in honoring each child's natural curiosity and innate desire to learn. As a mother of two, she brings a deep, personal understanding of child development into her work, observing each child with the same care and respect she gives her own. Her passion for education has been shaped through hands-on experience working alongside children, and she is committed to seeing and understanding each child as a whole person, creating a nurturing, prepared environment where they can thrive academically, emotionally, and socially.

Ms. Yun Zhang

Montessori Teacher

Ms. Yun Zhang is a dedicated and passionate Early Childhood Educator with over 10 years of experience working in bilingual Montessori and traditional preschool environments. She is AMS credentialed and brings a warm, engaging, and nurturing approach to working with children ages 2.5 to 6 years. With a degree in Dance from Hainan University in China, Ms. Yun brings creativity, movement, music, and cultural learning into the classroom. She especially enjoys teaching Mandarin through songs, movement, and playful activities, making language learning natural and enjoyable for young children. Her Montessori training, early childhood education experience, and genuine love for children allow her to create a supportive environment where children can develop independence, confidence, language skills, and a lifelong love of learning.

Mr. Ron Gonzalez

Japanese Language & Music Teacher

Mr. Ron Gonzalez is the Japanese language teacher every Friday. He passed the first level Japanese Language Proficiency exam many years ago. Early on in his career, he lived in Tokyo, Japan while interning at Hitachi Semiconductor Ltd, working on semiconductor simulation software. He moved to the US and has worked in technology companies like Oracle, Salesforce and Apple specializing in Data, Machine Learning and AI. Today, he is Vice President at WEX, where he leads the AI and Data Lake Engineering teams. He loves playing the guitar and singing both English and Japanese songs with the kids and he constantly seeks to find technology applications in preschool education.
